| Abstract: | In our work we will use an innovative filter medium in the treatment of water, particularly in the filtration operation during the production of drinking water. This filtering medium is obtained from expanded clay in order to show that the innovative filtering medium produced locally has the same characteristics as imported sand and could eventually replace it and to know the advantages and limitations of using a filter media based on expanded clay compared to traditional filtration methods for the treatment of drinking water. this filter medium has shown several advantages compared to conventional sands used in filtration such as a higher porosity allowing the filtration cycle to be increased with high efficiencies and a reduction in pressure drop and a reduction in water consumption of washes due to a slower filtration cycle and a lower density of the filter medium Reduction of energy consumption (less washing) and production costs. |
