Abstract: Water pollution is a serious problem. Adsorption is one of the most effective techniques for removing organic pollutants. The aim of this work is to evaluate the effectiveness of the adsorption process on a natural clay, for the treatment of wastewater. Adsorption experiments were carried out in batch, applying the composite central design of 20 experiments taking into consideration three parameters, namely pH (X1), contact time (X2) and clay mass (X3). Statistical analysis enabled us to develop a model grouping together the most significant parameters. Optimum conditions are pH = 9, time =10 min; mad = 2 g/100mL. Our clay is proposed as a recyclable, competitive and easy-to-reuse adsorbent for the adsorption of organic pollutants. It has been observed that wastewater treated by adsorption on our clay loses its toxic nature, which can allow normal plant growth.
