Résumé:
Algeria is a predominantly rural country dominated by livestock, where the sheep industru has
always been an important part of it’s economy and society for some years now, the efforts of
research and support to producers are turning more to farming .
Breeding imporovement and sheep production, among other things the birth weight of lambs
because lamb is the strongest link in the breeding chain for sheep farming.
The study focused on the effect of certain factors on the birth weight of lambs of the HAMRA
breed in the Ain El Hadjar farm of the Livestock Technical Institute (ITELV) of the Saida wilaya,
during seven companions between 2010 and 2016 with more than 1300 registered newborn
lams.
The mean average birth weight of Hamra lambs from this pilot state farm was 3.450kg± 0.600.
The year of birth, mother’s age, mother’s weight, birth mode and sex of the lamb significantly
influence the birth weight of the lambs, but the month of birth has no effect significant on the
birth weight of lambs of the Hamra breed in our work.
