Our work involves the valorization of a number of marine plant species through the extraction of sodium alginate, a raw material widely used in the pharmaceutical industry. The identification study revealed three species, namely Cystoseira elegans, Cystoseira compressa and Dictyota, which are brown marine algae from the Algerian coast. Alginates extracted by maceration showed similar physico-chemical and spectroscopic characteristics to commercial alginate, including solubility, spreadability, color, UV absorption maxima and functional groups by FTIR. The formulation of emulgels for cutaneous administration based on two raw materials, alginate and hydrolate extracted from Ulva lactuca green algae, gave rise to similar products with either extracted or commercial alginate. The rheological study revealed Newtonian behavior, texture and stability for one month, confirmed by zeta potential measurements. Alginates showed antibacterial activity on certain strains, giving the formulations an antiseptic character, suggesting that it is both active ingredient and excipient.fr_FR
