Résumé: Animal surgery is a science that never stops evolving. Through the years, many disciplines, techniques and instruments have been added or improved in order to make sure that the veterinarian works in suitable conditions and save animals lives. Abdominal surgery is one of the frequent operations made on domestic carnivores. It is very complex and requires rigorous hygienic conditions. This humble work of two parts is an initiation to abdominal surgery of the dog and cat and helps the students get familiar with the basics of this science. The bibliographical synthesis has chapters: The first chapter is a recall of the abdominal organs anatomy, physiology and topography, starting from the abdominal cavity to the anus. Some of the blood and innervations systems are easily explained. It is of a crucial importance for the surgeon to know the location of every organ before even knowing the surgery. The second chapter is about how to approach the pets, contain and prepare them for surgery. Of course, there are many definitions helping students understand some basic notions and terms used in surgery. Hygienic conditions and sterilization types and methods have a good part of this chapter due to their importance. After that, come the different types of injections, wires, needles and everything related to suture. Because it is very crucial before any surgery and is of an immense variety, we made sure to state the basics of it and simplify it as much as possible to an understandable way. The second part is an experimental study which consists of realizing various surgeries and analyzing each step of the process as well as the tools, techniques, protocols and methods used for the surgery. The operated animal’s health is also evaluated days after the surgery to identify the efficiency of the process.
