Résumé:
The objective of this work was to develop a methyl-urea solution, a mixture of mono, di,
tri, and tetra methyl urea, derived from an alkaline methylation synthesis scheme followed
by a neutralization step. The obtained solutions exhibited very different characteristics,
particularly in relation to dry extract, viscosity, appearance, and their ability to undergo
poly-condensation under acidic pH conditions at high temperature, quantified by
viscoelasticity analyses. These differences were mainly conditioned by the value of the
formaldehyde-urea molar ratio and the dry extract. The application of certain solutions as a
sizing Factor on canvas fabric yielded satisfactory results in terms of impermeability.
